University of Florida Ph.D. students Mollie Brewer and Kevin Childs recently presented their research at CHI 2025, the premier international conference on human-computer interaction. Their study examines how collegiate coaching staff engage with performance data—gathering, interpreting, and applying it in ways that reflect competing priorities across performance, athlete well-being, and privacy. Drawing from focus groups with 17 coaches across five Division I teams, the research highlights the nuanced, selective ways in which data is used within high-performance sport environments. Their work contributes to a growing body of scholarship at the intersection of sport and human-computer interaction, and is part of UF’s broader AI-Powered Athletics initiative.
