AI-Powered Athletics
Part of the UF & Sport Collaborative
AI-Powered Athletics is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and the University Athletic Association as part of the UF & Sport Collaborative.
The group brings together researchers, engineers, and sport scientists dedicated to enriching the University of Florida’s research, education, and athletic community through innovative work in athletic performance, artificial intelligence, and sport technology.
The initiative is building a comprehensive collegiate athletic databank by integrating athletic performance, sports medicine, and academic data from Gator student-athletes. This growing dataset spans 21 teams, more than 500 student-athletes, and over 1 trillion data points, enabling the efficient generation of advanced insights to support student-athlete health and well-being, reduce time-loss injuries, and optimize individual and team performance while driving impactful, interdisciplinary research.
Potential Impact:
- Education: Provide novel data and case studies to undergraduate and graduate students in AI-related classes at UF, local and international data science competitions, and workshops in AI-related conferences
- Athletics: Benefit team performance and student-athlete health and well-being.
- Research: Develop new scientific approaches to monitoring health and well-being of individuals, tracking team performance in diverse settings, and advancing wearable sensor technologies.
