
Jennifer Nichols, Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Dr. Jennifer A. Nichols is an Associate Professor in the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering. She holds affiliate appointments in the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering. She is also a member of the University of Florida’s Pain Research and Intervention Center of Excellence (PRICE). Nichols’ research is at the intersection of human movement analysis, orthopaedic biomechanics, musculoskeletal pain, quantitative medical imaging, and artificial intelligence. She leads research projects on syndesmotic injuries (high ankle sprains), rotator cuff tears, and thumb osteoarthritis. Her work has been recognized by receipt of an Early Career Achievement Award from the American Society of Biomechanics (ASB), an Outstanding Researcher Award from the National Center for Simulation in Rehabilitation Research (NCSRR), and the Trailblazer Award from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). She completed an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at Tufts University, graduate degrees in biomedical engineering and bioethics at Northwestern University, and postdoctoral training in orthopaedic biomechanics at University of Utah.
