Kevin Butler, Ph.D.

Director of the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity Research


Dr. Kevin R. B. Butler is a Professor in the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering at and Director of the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity Research (FICS) at the University of Florida. His research focuses on the security and privacy of computing systems, encompassing areas such as embedded systems, cloud infrastructure, mobile devices, cyber-physical systems, and the security and privacy of users accessing computing systems.

His research has been supported by numerous funding agencies and by industry, and he directs the National Science Foundation Center for Privacy and Security for Marginalized and Vulnerable Populations (PRISM). He received several honors, including the NSF CAREER Award, and numerous best paper awards, and has served on national policy boards to shape the future of computing research.

Kevin earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Queen’s University.
